James Mollison is a British photographer who lives in Venice. His work is defined by original concepts applied to social and cultural themes. He is the author of ‘Where Children Sleep’, an ongoing project about children around the world and their bedrooms. A new edition will be published by Aperture in 2022. Playground, Aperture, 2015 is a book of photographs of school yards where children are at play which explores some of the complex dynamics around play and the environments where children learn. The Disciples, Chris Boot, 2008 comprises panoramic format portraits of music fans taken before and after concerts. The Memory of Pablo Escobar, Chris Boot, 2007 tells the extraordinary story of ‘the richest and most violent gangster in history’ through hundreds of photographs gathered by Mollison. James and Other Apes, Chris Boot, 2004 presents passport-style photographs of great apes and accompanied a solo exhibition at the Natural History Museum in London. His work has appeared in publications throughout the world. Mollison started life in Kenya in 1973 and grew up in England. After studying Art and Design at Oxford Brookes University and then film and photography at Newport School of Art and Design, he moved to Italy to work at Benetton’s creative lab, Fabrica. From 2011 - 2014  Mollison worked as creative editor of Colors Magazine with Patrick Waterhouse. In 2009 he won the Royal Photographic Society’s Vic Odden Award for notable achievement in the art of photography by a British photographer aged 35 or under.
